Artist Release (Editorial Version)

Jahkasa is an engaged singer and musician originally from Burkina Faso, emerging from a lineage of griots and musicians in Ouagadougou. He defines his sound as Balafon Reggae, a style that blends traditional African instrumentation with reggae’s rhythmic backbone. After relocating to France in 2009, he released his debut album Pompafric in 2014, followed by Enfants du Pays in 2016.

His journey includes collaborations with respected artists such as Natty Dread, Touré Kunda, Yaniss Odua, Fantanh Mojah, and musicians from Danakil, enriching his musical language and stage presence. With the album Née Chikora released in 2019, Jahkasa achieved major recognition in Burkina Faso, earning four Marley d’Or awards and nominations for Best African Reggae Album at the Victoires du Reggae.

Mentored by Tiken Jah Fakoly, who recognized the originality of his live performances, Jahkasa joined major European and African tours as an opening act. “Kakistocratie”, recorded in Bamako and released in February 2024, continues this trajectory with a sound designed for both stage impact and cultural resonance.

About the Song

“Kakistocratie” relies on a grounded rhythmic structure where the beat maintains a steady, organic pulse. Jahkasa’s voice sits firmly in the pocket, using repetition and controlled phrasing to reinforce authority and message weight without overloading the arrangement.

The flow remains consistent and intentional, favoring clarity over speed. Cadence choices reflect reggae’s call-and-response heritage while integrating African rhythmic sensibilities. The result is a track that feels built for live performance, collective movement, and long-form listening.
